Review On Neutrogena Suncare

I’m a huge fan of sun screen, infact I feel is mandatory that everyone uses it.
We spent half of our lives trying to look younger, more youthful, yet some of us chooses to let prolong sun exposure do nasty things to our skin.
One of the key factors to ageing skin is by sun damage; exposure under the sun will increase melanin production, causing darker skin tone and if not worse, pigmentation. (Lets not go into skin cancer yet)

After giving birth, My body has gotten more frail and weak and that’s enough to damaged for me by far, the last thing on my mind is to open doors for premature ageing to invade my skin. Thus I’m always on a lookout for better sunscreens (not necessarily higher spf) in the market; texture, after feel and level of greasiness is very crucial for me when choosing a good sunscreen.
I was given the opportunity to review 2 new sunscreen from Neutrogena cater for different areas of the skin.
This time round I’m reviewing something slightly different, we are talking about long-lasting, stable protection against both UVA and UVB rays. The Sun Protection factor (SPF) and the PA rating measures the protection against UVB rays and UVA rays.

1. Sun Protection factor (SPF)

  • Measures how long you can stay in the sun without the sunscreen before getting burned.
  • For example – Applying a sunscreen with SPF 30 means it will take 30 minutes longer for your skin to get burn.
  • SPF protection alone is not enough as it measures the protection against the sunburn caused by UVB rays only – not UVA.

2. PA rating

  • A sunscreen with a PA rating means it blocks UVA rays.
  • The more the “+” signs it has, the higher the UVA protection.
  • Protection against UVA rays is important because UVA rays have a longer wavelength and they penetrate deeper into the skin, contributing to premature aging and skin cancer.

Guess what? Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Range is able to do all that!
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF 50+ PA+++80g (face and body), Neutrogena Ultra Sheer UV Waterlight SPF 50+ PA+++, 30 ml (face) respectively

To protect skin from the harmful effects of UV light, Neutrogena has introduced revolutionary Helioplex™ technology that contains FDA-approved sunscreens covering the full UVA and UVB spectrum.
In short this means Neutrogena is able to stabilize UVA protection so that even under highly intensive sunlight. Most sunscreens you see in the market is lacking in this protection; shield will start to break down when your skin is exposed to the sun making it vulnerable to UV attack.
With Neutrogena’s Helioplex™ technology, you can be assured that sun protection does its job more effectively over a longer period of time (up to 5 – 6 hours).

Like I mentioned before, aside from the SPF protection, product aspect is also very important to me. I can’t stand the oily and greasy on some of the sunblocks I’ve came across in the past, no matter how much shield it gives once it makes me feel like I’m on grease land , even is just one time, there is no 2nd chance.

Here’s a test on how sheer Neutrogena Ultra Sheer UV Waterlight SPF 50+ PA+++ sets on my skin.
From the 1st window (right) to the last was just an interval of 1 minute; this is how fast the transition from milky white to completely clear takes.
Gliding on like a breeze, this sunblock gives off a refreshing light scent without that overpowering smell that some does.
The thing that takes the cake is even at a moderately high SPF of 50+ PA+++, it still feels very lightweight and not greasy at all. Washing hands is easy after application; I do not need to use handsoap, just run my palms through tepid water and it washes the sunblock

Then I took another test on Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF 50+ PA+++80g since it looks thicker and heavier to see if it works the same.
Yes the consistency does feels thick at first but as I spread out the product, the whites started to diminish and turns clear in just mere minutes!

Here’s a picture of my after application (forgive my blemishes, I didn’t ask for it), almost like a 2nd skin.

With makeup on using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer UV Waterlight as a base protectant.
My makeup neither looks heavy nor caked up and best of all, my face skintone matches perfectly with my neck.

Give Neutrogena a thumbs up for formulating Helioplex™ Technology over at their Facebook Page:

Till then, take good care of your skin!
